The House

A house built on restraint

Valerian & Co. was founded on a simple, unfashionable idea: that the most valuable objects are the ones you never need to replace. We work with four ateliers, none of them large, and we make fewer things each year than most houses make in a week.

Ateliers & makers

Four workshops, held to one standard

Our cases are machined in La Chaux-de-Fonds and cased by the same two hands that regulate them. Our coats are cut and canvassed outside Florence, by a workshop that still makes its own shoulder padding. The jewellery is engraved under a loupe, never laser-cut. The objects are thrown, dried for six weeks and wood-fired by a potter in the Hudson Valley who fires twice a year.

We do not ask any of them to grow. Every partnership is a single purchase order, renewed annually, at a price they set rather than one we negotiate.

The result is a collection that cannot be restocked quickly, and that is the point. When a run closes, it is closed.

What we hold to

Three rules, applied without exception

Materials without compromise

Undyed cashmere from a mill that has not changed its looms since 1904. Solid gold, never plated. Stone that is cut, not veneered.

Work we can stand behind for life

If a piece needs repair, we restore it in the atelier that made it. No charge, for as long as you own it.

Service instead of selling

One concierge per client. No campaigns, no pressure, and no second email asking whether you have decided.
